Why I work with the Reformer
The Pilates Reformer is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment I know. It allows me to tailor every exercise to your body, your movement, and your goals. Whether you're recovering from an injury, navigating pregnancy or menopause, or simply want to become stronger, the Reformer offers a safe and effective way to build strength through controlled, low-impact movement.
Originally developed by Joseph Pilates, the Reformer uses a moving carriage, adjustable springs, straps, and pulleys to create resistance that can be increased or reduced depending on what your body needs. This means every session can be adapted as you progress, while remaining kind to your joints.
The Reformer
-

Adaptive Resistance
The adjustable springs can either assist or challenge your movements, allowing each exercise to match your strength, mobility, and stage of recovery.
-

Full-Body Workout
The Reformer trains both the larger muscles that create movement and the smaller stabilising muscles that support your joints, helping you build balanced, functional strength and a toned physique.
-

Deep Core & Pelvic Floor
Every session encourages the deep muscles of the abdomen, hips, glutes, and pelvic floor to work together, creating a stable foundation for efficient movement.
-

Posture & Body Awareness
The moving carriage provides instant feedback and support, helping you improve posture, coordination, and body awareness so you move with greater ease and control.
Reformer Pilates for women through every stage of life
Although pregnancy and menopause happen at very different stages of life, they have one thing in common: both ask your body to adapt to significant physical and hormonal changes. During these periods, building strength isn't just about lifting heavier. It's about improving stability, restoring body awareness, and creating a strong foundation that supports you for years to come.
Because every exercise on the Reformer can be adapted to your body, it's a form of strength training that evolves with you. Whether you're rebuilding strength after an injury or illness, returning to exercise after treatment, or looking to maintain a strong, capable body as you get older, the focus is always on helping you move better first. That creates a stronger foundation for everyday life, so you can continue lifting, carrying, hiking, travelling, playing sport, and enjoying the activities that matter most to you.
Why I teach the STOTT Pilates method
While rooted in classical Pilates, STOTT Pilates incorporates modern principles of biomechanics, physiotherapy, and exercise science. It’s described as a "contemporary approach" to the traditional Pilates method, and provides various modifications for the various exercises across the method. It emphasises spinal alignment, core stability, and modifications to suit individual needs, making it a highly adaptable and safe practice.
This makes STOTT Pilates ideal for tailored exercise programming and allows me as an instructor to easily adapt exercises for special populations, such as prenatal & post-natal clients or individuals with pain or joint limitations.
